Brett Booth Study

I've always been a fan of Brett Booth's work, even more so when I saw he worked on the awesome dinosaur comic Extinction Event (worth a look at!) So i sat down today and did a few studies of some of his dinosaur drawings, bare in mind these are referenced study's, so I hold no claim to any original work, I was just learning by doing and trying to understand his artwork a little better! Great fun to do, learned a fair bit. Why don't you go over and check out his dino blog? its awesome!

Gasp, more skulls!

Yes I know, more skulls, problem is they are great for warm up sketching! I'll try for something else next time. Velociraptor, Rex, Pachy and Stego this time :D

Cross-Hatch Dino's

I wanted to practice more with some cross-hatching today, so I grabbed a few dino skull references and went to town, the Rex came out the best, very happy with the values and texture of that. Will be doing more soon!

Imaginative Realism by James Gurney

Imaginative Realism by James Gurney is a great book, I recommend it too anyone doing arts of any kind, even more so too fantasy illustrators and concept artists. This book covers a wide range of topics from Archaeology to People to Architecture (even has a section on dinosaurs, must have!)

I was doing a little doodling while reading through, mainly concentrating on the book! However I thought I'd post said sketchs, also the header picture from this blog. More sketch's to come soon!

Woo, first post!

Well I've been meaning to make one of these things for a while now! This is a fun side blog for my main website Hypergear Studios, I'll be posting a lot of dino stuff in here as I find myself doing a lot of Jurassic Scribbles around other work! To kick it all off, I'll post a quick hour speedpaint I recently bashed out:

More to come and please stay tuned :)
